Four People Dead in Collision Between Bulk Carrier and Coastal Safety Boat

Four people were reported dead following a collision between a bulk carrier and a coastal safety boat at the southern entry to the Bosphorus waterway, according to GAC.

The incident resulted in the capsizing of the coastal safety boat, identified as Sahil Guvenlik 25.

GAC added that the boat was being removed to a safety zone by tugs.

The incident led to a stoppage of shipping traffic in the Bosphorus waterway.

The bulk carrier which took part in the collision is reportedly the Cook Island-flagged M/V Tolunay. According to AIS data provided by Marine Traffic, the 1995-built bulker, which is currently stopped in the area, was transiting from Istanbul to Odessa, Ukraine, at the time of the incident.
