Royal Boskalis Bags Contract at Port of Acu in Brazil
Dutch maritime services firm Royal Boskalis Westminster announced it has earned a contract to expand the oil transshipment terminal at the port of Acu in Brazil.
The award, worth approximately $127m, was made by Acu Petroleo, which is a joint venture of Brazilian port operator Prumo Logistica and German firm Oiltanking.
Boskalis’ expertise in providing dredging, maritime infrastructure and other marine services will come into play in this project which requires the deepening, widening and extension of the access channel and turning basin.
The aim is to increase the access channel’s depth from 20.5 metres to 24.5 metres by the end of 2017. That would enable the port to receive VLCCs.
Acu is located in Sao Joao da Barra in Rio de Janeiro state.
Boskalis already has a positive track record of having worked on earlier infrastructure projects at the Port of Acu.
