STX O&S Wins Order for Eight LR1 Tankers

44439The South Korean shipbuilder ‘STX Offshore & Shipbuilding’ (STX O&S) has won an order worth $ 375 million to build eight LR1 tankers.

The contract includes the construction of four ships and four oil tankers of 74,000 tons.  As per the contract the ships would be delivered in 2016.

At this point of time the name of the shipowner has not been disclosed but according to the officials the Long Range 1 (LR1) product carriers will be chartered on a long term basis to Royal Dutch Shell. The additional specifications of the ships ordered were not mentioned.

Since the first half of 2014, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has received orders for 21 product tankers out of 36 orders placed on international scale, making STX O&S a major holder of the Overall market share in shipbuilding segment.

Over the last 40 years, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has built around 700 ships in Busan and Jinhae Shipyard. STX O&S owns ‘STX Europe’ and is fourth largest shipbuilder in the world.
